Dr Esmoreit Sleyster, the founder of The Child Psychology Service, has over 30 years’ experience as a Clinical Psychologist in the NHS and in private practice, where she has worked closely with Local Authorities, Education Authorities, Legal services and Voluntary agencies. Dr Sleyster has worked with infants, children and young people experiencing a range of emotional, behavioural, social and mental health difficulties as a Clinical Psychologist in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). She has helped develop a parenting skills training pack and has specialised in providing family therapy. In addition she has specialised in working with children who were abused or who suffered loss through bereavement, divorce or by being taken into the care of the Local Authority. Dr Sleyster has undertaken specialist training to help children process trauma and deal with trauma related symptoms.

Dr Sleyster initially worked in the generic Tier 3 services, and the last 15 years as a specialist Consultant Clinical Psychologist with children in care of the Local Authority. Throughout her career in the NHS, Dr Sleyster has held a number of senior clinical and leadership positions and has developed expertise in staff management, project management, and in providing expert consultation and training to senior managers and staff groups in the NHS and the Local Authority. Furthermore, she has facilitated numerous training projects both in her work for the NHS as well as in her private practice, where she has been commissioned as a Training Provider for West Sussex County Council since May 2008.

Dr Sleyster has also worked as an independent Court Expert Witness, in which role she undertook psychological assessments of children; parenting assessments; and, with particular reference to attachments: assessments of children and families involved in care order applications, access disputes or residency disputes.

Dr Sleyster obtained a Clinical Ph.D in Child and Family Psychology at the Tavistock Clinic and Birkbeck College, University of London, in March 2002, and undertakes regular professional training, as required in order to remain registered with the professional bodies to which she belongs.

Dr Esmoreit Sleyster Ph.D., is a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS). This means that her professional qualifications are recognised, verified and endorsed by the BPS. Furthermore, as legally required, Dr Sleyster is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Dr Sleyster has completed her generic training in EMDR, and the EMDR Europe accredited child training levels 1 and 2. She is registered with the EMDR Association UK & Ireland, which is a professional association of EMDR clinicians and researchers who seek the highest standards for the clinical practice of EMDR in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Dr Sleyster is registered with the Association of Child Psychologists in Private Practice (AChiPPP), an organisation that acts as an open and objective information channel for the public. It  promotes high standards of professional conduct and expertise and collects and disseminates information concerning child  psychologists in private practice.

Dr Sleyster is also registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), which means she subscribes to certain measures to protect client confidentiality and holds a professional liability insurance. Dr Sleyster also has a successful Enhanced Disclosure Certificate from the Disclosure & Barring Service (formerly CRB-check).
